Electronics

AS Modules in the Summer Term of the Lower 6th. Form.
A2 Modules in the Summer Term of the Upper 6th. Form.

Re-sits of AS papers can be taken in the Summer Term of the U6th. year.

Coursework in the AS consists of one Project( 15% total A level marks )
Coursework in the A2 consists of one Project. ( 15% total A level marks )

In the L6 there are two examinations at AS, both 1.5 hrs in duration:
Foundation Electronics and Further Electronics
In the U6 there are two examinations at A2, both 1.5 hrs in duration:
Electronic Control Systems and Communications Systems

Requirements at GCSE:
Grade B or above in Physics and or GCSE D&T.
Candidates should discuss their possible choice with Mr. Wiltshire or Mr. Higginbottom initially.
This is an AS / A2 Level Course designed for those who wish to pursue their interest in Electronics further from GCSE Design and Technology. It may also be considered by those who have not taken GCSE D&T, but who wish to consider Electronics, in the future, as a possible option.
It is fair to suggest that those who have taken GCSE D&T will find some of the material in the Foundation Electronics at AS, covers areas which they are already familiar with. Those joining the course, not having GCSE D&T, will not however be disadvantaged.

Subject Combinations:
In the past students have selected along with Electronics other A Levels such as Mathematics, Physics, D&T, Art and other none Scientific subjects. The advantage in linking with Physics is that the Electronic Option Module in A2 Physics, becomes an easier choice, as much of the work is covered in the Electronics AS.

Careers:
Students who have taken A Level Electronics can pursue Electronics further at University in the form of a range of Engineering Courses. Others who linked with Product Design may also pursue a range of Design options, as well as associated engineering choices.
Clearly in a world of expanding Technological influence, a knowledge of Electronics is useful, and central to many areas, in Industry and Commerce.
