What is Medical Electronics? Medical Electronics is the application of Electrical Engineering in medicine. Most courses will need you to have some anatomy/physiology knowledge and are aimed at blending Medical research with Electronics.

Typical course content? Most courses will start with modules in Electrical Engineering and Electronics. You will normally also have modules in Mathematics, Anatomy and Physiology and detailed programming of systems. It is also common to work closely with University Hospitals as most of them will have a Department of Clinical Engineering. You can expect to specialise in one main area of the subject such as Physiological Measurement, Haemodynamics, Medical Imaging or Biomedical Sensors.

What kind of career might I get? You could be working in research along side doctors and surgeons to develop new instrumentation or sensors. You could work for a pharmaceutical company to develop specific electronic products for use by the medical profession.
