Name: James Mather
Major Project Situation: A street furniture company has approached me to
design a bus shelter and manufacture a prototype of the seating. This situation
has mainly arisen because the bus shelters in city centre environments at
present have outdated designs and therefore are not very aesthetically pleasing.
If designed well these shelters could be, not only functional with the
anthropometrics of different people concerned but sculptures in keeping with
modern city environments.
Major Project Outcome: James produced a unique and conceptual design
based around a coastal them. Having photographed and researched Liverpool city
centre and dock land he focused on a nautical theme and developed a design for
his bus shelter that echoed the mast and sail of a tall ship. The seating within
the bus shelter was aimed at being both ergonomic but at the same time very
aesthetic taking on the form of the crest of a wave.
Degree Course: Architecture at Liverpool University.
Career Hopes and Aspirations: Start off by working for a leading
Architects office to gain some valuable experience but I'd like to eventually
start my own business designing conceptual spaces.
